چکیده
Iyengar, L., and Selvaraj, R. J. (1972). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 47, 411. Intestinal absorption of immunoglobulins by newborn infants. Intestinal absorption in newbom infants of immunoglobulins present in colostrum was studied by measuring the concentrations of inmunoglobulins IgA, IgG, and IgM in cord blood and following the changes in the serum of the infant on the 5th day after birth. In infants who did not receive colostrum, a marked fall in IgG levels was observed on the 5th day after birth as compared to levels at-birth. The concentrations of IgA and IgM showed marginal changes. In contrast, colostrumfed infants showed significant increases in the concentration of IgG. Levels of all 3 immunoglobulins on the 5th day were significantly higher in the serum of colostrumfed infants as compared to those who did not receive colostrum. It is suggested that immunoglobulins present in colostrum are to some extent absorbed from the intestinal tract of newborn infants, and this may have some physiological significance in the resistance to infection during the early neonatal period.

متن کاملUptake of colostral immunoglobulins by the compromised newborn farm animal.
Neonatal mortality is very high in farm animals (approximately 10%) and disease resistance is greatly influenced by an adequate passive immunisation just after birth. In piglets, foals, calves and lambs, the intestinal absorption of immunoglobulins from their mother's colostrum occurs mainly by a non-specific endocytosis of macromolecules, but the details of the absorption process, and the mech...
متن کاملNewborn calf intestinal absorption of immunoglobulins extracted from colostrum.
In the newborn calf, colostrum immunoglobulin absorption was compared with absorption of immunoglobulins extracted from colostrum. Reduced absorption of the latter resulted in plasma immunoglobulin levels unable to protect the animals against infections. Adding complete milk powder to the immunoglobulin solution slightly improved the level of absorption. Postprandial plasma alkaline phosphatase...
متن کاملEffect of withholding macromolecules on the duration of intestinal permeability to colostral IgG in foals.
OBJECTIVE To quantify absorption of colostral IgG by healthy neonatal foals and to test the hypothesis that delayed ingestion of macromolecules prolongs the duration of intestinal permeability to immunoglobulins (Ig) in newborn foals. ANIMALS Thirteen mixed breed foals. PROCEDURE Foals were randomly assigned to two treatment groups, which were fed either a glucose-electrolyte solution or a ...
متن کاملEffects of Vitamin D in Neonates and Young Infants
Vitamin D is important for the development, growth, and mineralization of the skeletal in neonates and children. Vitamin D is essential for intestinal absorption of calcium. Vitamin D is metabolized to 25-hydroxyvitamin D and then to 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D. Pregnant women in developed countries often have insufficient serum concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and a supplementation of vitamin...
